TomTom One LE Portable GPS

BestBuy.com had a deal on the TomTom One LE Portable GPS for $149 so I picked one up to play with. My car already has GPS and a LCD that is twice the size of the TomTom’s but I wanted something I could carry around when I travel and as a backup unit in case my cars GPS fails.
What’s unique about this TomTom is that it has Bluetooth 2.0 to connect to GPRS enabled devices to pull traffic and weather information from the internet. My iPhone doesn’t allow tethering or other devices to access the AT&T network, but my Sony Ericsson K790a does and I keep that around for pictures and such. I’m going to test out the Bluetooth function a little later and see what I think of it.
You can find more about the TomTom One LE GPS here.

Logitech VX Revolution Laser Mouse

I received the mouse I purchased from TigerDirect.com for $7.50.
The mouse retails for $79 normally. The mouse is unique because it has a alloy scroll wheel that you can set to keep spinning if you want using a microswitch located on the bottom of the mouse.
The mouse is made for Notebook computers so it comes with a tiny USB dongle that stores into the unit for travel and takes only one AA battery that can be easily obtained anywhere.
Overall so far I like the mouse, it’s a nice size and not too small compared to some notebook mice. You can find out more about the mouse here.

Icy Dock Firewire 800 Enclosure

Today I received my 500GB Samsung drive and placed it inside the Icy Dock Enclosure to test and setup. The drive installed easily with four screws and slides into the enclosure and locks into place. With a lever and latch you can unlock it and pull out the hard drive easily and place another on in its place if needed.I tested the external drive by hooking it up to my MacBook Pro’s Firewire 800 port and transferring a 7.5GB iso file from the internal 3.5″ drive to the new Firewire 800 enclosure. It transfered the file in about 3 minutes and 45 seconds which seemed slightly faster than transferring the file through the Gigabit ethernet from my PC.

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.  Also hopefully you got some good shopping deals on Black Friday.

Mac OS X 10.5.1 Leopard Software Update

Today Apple released the 10.5.1 update for the new operating system leopard.

After updating, the update fixed my issue with Skype crashing if the firewall was enabled.

They also updated iPhoto also. You can find more information on the update and what was fixed here.

XSKN keyboard skins from The Gadget Locker

I received my keyboard skins from TheGadgetLocker.com for my Apple Wireless and USB aluminum keyboards.  The skins are very nice and thin and seem to be better than my iSkin skin I have on my MacBook Pro’s keyboard.

They are almost invisible and you have to look closely to notice they are installed.  I probably will stop by The Gadget Locker one day since they are located only 30 minutes away from me and pick up a XSKN for my MacBook Pro also.

Intel Releases New 45nm Hafnium Based CPU’s

Intel just recently released it new line of CPU’s based on the 45nm manufacturing process.  Currently my E6600 Core 2 Duo is manufactured using the 60nm process.Intel also utilized Hafnium to produce these chips.  If you recall science class, Hafnium is the 72nd element in the periodic table of elements.  It is a metal.

I plan on upgrading my Desktop PC running Vista to a 45nm CPU since my current Asus P5W-DH motherboard I bought in Summer of 2006 supports the new CPU’s.

iPhone v1.1.2 Firmware Update

Today Apple pushed out the new iPhone and Touch iPod 1.1.2 Firmware updates.

It closed a few security hole/exploit issues and bug fixes.  The update came in at 160.2 MB.

I also noticed you can now see a new battery meter icon in iTunes next to your device that displays the current battery charge.

I’ll try to also share some info in a following post on how I sync my iPhone with my PC and my Mac.

High Definition DVD’s on my Computer

Last week, I added a S-ATA Blu-Ray drive to my PC.  I already had the Xbox 360 HD-DVD hooked up to my computer via USB.Instead of having separate stand-alone Blu-Ray and HD-DVD drives to watch High Definition DVD’s, I chose to just get drives for my computer since it is hooked up to my LCD already. Both drives are read only and don’t burn High Definition DVD’s but I never planned on doing that, since the cost of the discs are still high at this point.I use PowerDVD Ultra to play the movies with great results. The greatest benefit to having the drives on my computer is that I can backup my HD-DVD’s or Blu-Ray’s to my computer to archive and protect the originals. :)
