AT&T offers free WiFi access to iPhones at hotspots and Starbucks

I got a SMS text and a email today telling me that AT&T is now offering free WiFi for iPhone customers.
If somehow my computer could use the WiFi I think that would be more valuable to me.  My iPhone has a 3G connection most of the places I go and that is pretty quick enough for me.  I’m not doing any internet intensive tasks on my iPhone that would really make a difference being on a WiFi network.
So what main benefits do we iPhone 3G customers get from this?  If you area has only Edge, then it might be cool, but I really could care less about a WiFi connection for my iPhone at a hotspot.

It’s mainly just another marketing promo to draw in new customers. Like you said, might be handy for spots where no 3g coverage or bad signal.

Someone asked me why women don’t gamble as much as men do, and I gave the commonsensical reply that we don’t have as much money. That was a true and incomplete answer. In fact, women’s total instinct for gambling is satisfied by marriage.
