Apple Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0

I’ve been having this annoying issue with my MacBook Pro where the first letter you try to type will be ignored sometimes. It gets very annoying and posted on the Apple Forums about it only to have the topic closed and locked.
It looks like the finally fixed it. Yay!
I checked for a Apple Software update today and this is what it said:

This MacBook and MacBook Pro firmware update addresses an issue where the first key press may be ignored if the computer has been sitting idle. It also addresses some other issues.

The update package will install an updater application into the Applications/Utilities folder and will launch it automatically. Please follow the instructions in the updater application to complete the update process.

I’m going to update now and hope it fixes it!

MacBook Air – It’s True!

Today Steve Jobs announced the thinnest notebook available.
The Apple MacBook Air.
Edit:
I really like the air, but after looking at the site checkout, I see you can get a 1.8Ghz model for 300 more that brings it to $2100.
Also the hard drive used in the air is the same as the iPod and they should offer a 160GB model soon since the iPod comes in that.
If I’m going to get the air, it will be mainly for job use and to maybe learn more about coding with OSX.  I’ll probably wait till the price drops more or they offer more options before I actually pick one up.

They also announced a 500GB and 1TB Time Capsule which is basically a Airport Extreme combined with a hard drive.  The good thing about this is it allows over the network Time Machine backups which is a feature they took out of Leopard just a week before it’s release.  Now you  know why. I pre-ordered one and that is going to replace my Airport Extreme which has a printer hooked up to it now.  So the Time Capsule will be my print server for my Laser printer also.

Apple Universal iPod Dock

I purchased one of these which came with a Apple remote that comes with the new Macs.
I opened it up and extended the IR so I could use it in my car once I mount it under the clock pod.
I’ll post a link to my project when it’s complete.

New Apple Store in NYC

The new West 14th Street Apple Store opens on Friday, December 7th at 6pm.  It has three floors with one floor dedicated for personal training, free workshops, technical support and more.  They will be handing out commemorative T-shirts and other special surprises while they last.  I wonder if I should make a trip out there to get some stuff.
I swear Apple is going to take over the world.

Icy Dock Firewire 800 Enclosure

Today I received my 500GB Samsung drive and placed it inside the Icy Dock Enclosure to test and setup. The drive installed easily with four screws and slides into the enclosure and locks into place. With a lever and latch you can unlock it and pull out the hard drive easily and place another on in its place if needed.I tested the external drive by hooking it up to my MacBook Pro’s Firewire 800 port and transferring a 7.5GB iso file from the internal 3.5″ drive to the new Firewire 800 enclosure. It transfered the file in about 3 minutes and 45 seconds which seemed slightly faster than transferring the file through the Gigabit ethernet from my PC.
